In Umbraco 17 and uSkinned 6+, reorganizing your website's structure is a fluid and instant process. Whether you need to change where a page lives in your site's hierarchy (Moving) or just change its order in a menu (Sorting), the modern Bellissima interface makes it easy to manage your "digital filing cabinet".
Step-by-Step: Moving a Page to a New Location
Moving a page is used when you want to change its "parent" (for example, moving a "Team" page from under "Home" to live under "About Us").
-
Locate the Page: Open the Content section on the left-hand side. Use the modern caret icons (v) to expand your site's tree structure.
-
Open the Actions Menu:
-
Right-click on the page you want to move.
-
Alternatively, hover over the page name and click the three dots (···) that appear.
-
Select 'Move': From the slide-out menu, select the Move option.
-
Choose the Destination: A list of your site's pages will appear. Select the new "parent" page where you want your page to be relocated.
-
Confirm: Click the Move button. Thanks to the Umbraco 17 Management API, the tree will update instantly without needing a page refresh.
Important Tips for Moving Content
-
Automatic URL Updates: When you move a page, uSkinned and Umbraco work together to update the page's location. However, it is a best practice to check the SEO tab to ensure a 301 Redirect is in place so old links don't break for your visitors.
-
Child Pages Go Too: When you move a "parent" page, all sub-pages (children) attached to it move automatically to the new location.
-
Real-Time Feedback: Unlike older versions of CMS software, you no longer need to "clear cache" to see these changes; they are reflected in your Visual Editor and site tree immediately.

While the footer remains constant, your individual pages will change. Sometimes, you aren’t ready to delete a page, but you need it to disappear from the live site immediately—perhaps a limited-time offer has expired or a team member has moved on. Your next step is mastering how to "Unpublish Page".
We’ll show you how to safely take a page "off-air" without losing any of your data, allowing you to keep it as a private draft in your Backoffice until you're ready for its comeback!
